Canon G7X Mark II vs Mark III: Which Should You Rent?
G7X2 or G7X3? Compare the Canon G7X Mark II and Mark III for vlogging, travel and concerts, with Singapore rental prices from S$36/day.
What is the same
Both are Canon PowerShot compacts with a 20.1MP 1-inch sensor, a bright 24-100mm equivalent f/1.8-2.8 zoom, a built-in ND filter, a flip-up selfie touchscreen and Canon's popular colours. For still photos in good light, most people cannot tell them apart.
What the Mark III adds
4K video at up to 30fps with no crop, where the Mark II tops out at Full HD. A 3.5mm microphone input, so you can plug in a wireless mic for clear voice. Vertical video recording for TikTok and Reels. A faster stacked sensor and processor for quicker autofocus and burst shooting. Full HD slow motion at up to 120fps.
Where the Mark II still makes sense
Photo-first trips where you mostly shoot stills. Casual family clips where Full HD is enough. When you want the G7X look and feel at the lowest rate.
Which is better for concerts?
Both are small enough for many venues that ban cameras with detachable lenses, but rules vary by event, so always check your show's policy. The Mark III's 4K is nicer for recording songs; the zoom on both stops at 100mm equivalent, so for far seats a zoom phone like the Vivo X300 Ultra may get closer shots.
Which is better for vlogging?
The Mark III, mainly because of the microphone input. Built-in mics on any compact pick up wind and crowd noise; pairing the Mark III with a DJI Mic 2 or Rode wireless set makes a big difference.
