Safari Camera Rental from Singapore: 200-600mm, 100-400mm GM or the RX10V?
Which camera and telephoto lens to rent for an African safari, India tiger trip or Mandai Bird Paradise, with simple settings and packing tips.
Which setup suits your trip
Families and first-timers: the Sony RX10V zooms from 24mm to 600mm with no lens changes, so no dust reaches the sensor in an open game vehicle. It is the simplest safari camera we rent. Light packers: the Sony RX100 VII fits in a jacket pocket and reaches 200mm. It is great for zoo days, Mandai Bird Paradise and as a second camera for the family. Serious birders and wildlife shooters: pair the Sony 200-600mm with a Sony A6700 for extra reach on small birds, or with a full-frame Sony A7R V or A7 IV to crop in later. The 100-400mm GM is lighter and sharper for all-day walking.
200-600mm or 100-400mm GM?
Pick the 200-600mm for small or distant birds and animals, for example in Kenya, Tanzania, India or Sungei Buloh. Pick the 100-400mm GM if you also want closer shots of big game and need to carry the lens all day.
Simple settings for moving animals
Use a shutter speed of at least 1/1000s for birds in flight and 1/500s for walking animals. Turn on continuous autofocus with animal or bird eye detection. Let auto ISO handle the light at dawn and dusk, when animals are most active.
Packing tips for long game drives
Bring spare batteries; we rent extra Sony NP-FZ100 batteries as add-ons. Keep the camera in its bag when the vehicle moves on dusty roads. A beanbag or monopod helps steady a long lens on a vehicle rail.
Renting for an overseas trip
Local renters can bring our gear overseas with no surcharge. Tourists and travellers may need extra verification. Tell us your destination and dates on WhatsApp, and we will check availability and suggest a kit. You can also message us while you are away if you get stuck with a setting.
