Singapore F1 Grand Prix camera and lens rental guide
Which telephoto lenses and cameras to rent for the Singapore Grand Prix night race, for grandstand and walkabout ticket holders.
Shooting the Singapore Grand Prix
The Marina Bay Street Circuit is a night race under floodlights, with cars passing at very high speed behind catch fencing. That makes it one of the hardest, and most rewarding, events to photograph in Singapore. The right lens makes most of the difference.
Grandstand tickets: go long
From grandstands such as Pit Straight, Turn 1, Padang or Stamford, you are a fair distance from the track. The Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS gives you the reach for tight shots of cars at the apex and on the straights. The Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM II or Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 FE are lighter, and the bright F2.8 aperture helps freeze action under the floodlights. Pair either with a full-frame body such as the Sony A7 IV.
Walkabout tickets: stay flexible
With a walkabout ticket you will move around the zones and catch the concerts too. A 70-200mm covers trackside spots, while a compact camera like the Fujifilm X100VI or X-T50 is great for the atmosphere, the crowds and the stage. Bring a bag that is easy to carry all evening.
Settings that work at night
Use continuous autofocus with tracking, a fast shutter speed around 1/1000s to freeze cars, or slow down to 1/60s and pan with the car for motion blur. Shoot to fast memory cards and carry a spare battery, as race nights are long.
Check the rules and book early
Check the official event guidelines for what camera gear is allowed in your zone. Race weekend is one of our busiest periods, so send your request list on WhatsApp early. Payment is required to confirm your booking, and a refundable PayNow or Wise deposit applies.
