Sony A7S III vs Sony FX3: which one should you rent?
Both are 4K low-light monsters from Sony. Here is how to choose between the A7S III and the FX3 for your next shoot in Singapore.
What is the short answer?
Rent the Sony A7S III if you want a familiar camera body that shoots both stills and video. Rent the Sony FX3 if your shoot is video-only and you want a built-in fan, mounting points and a top handle for long recording sessions.
What do both cameras do well?
Both share the same 12-megapixel full-frame sensor, outstanding low-light performance, 4K up to 120fps, 10-bit 4:2:2 recording and S-Log3 with S-Cinetone colour. Footage from the two cameras is essentially identical, so your choice comes down to handling, not image quality.
When should you pick the Sony A7S III?
Choose the A7S III if you also need stills, prefer an electronic viewfinder for bright outdoor shoots, or want a standard camera layout your crew already knows. It is the safer pick for hybrid shooters covering events, weddings or corporate work where photos and video are both needed.
When should you pick the Sony FX3?
Choose the FX3 for dedicated video work: interviews, music videos, documentaries and gimbal work. The built-in cooling fan means unlimited recording times, the cage-free body has mounting points for accessories, and the included top handle with XLR inputs gives you proper audio without extra adapters.
