Carousell camera rental in Singapore: 7 red flags to check before you rent
Fake "rental houses", individuals asking for your IC, cheap unbranded batteries and more: how to rent safely on Carousell and who to trust.
Why this guide exists
Carousell is where many Singaporeans first look for a camera, lens, drone or zoom phone to rent. Most problems we hear about come from casual listings run by individuals. These seven red flags help you spot a risky rental before you pay.
Red flag 1: Calling themselves a company, rental house, studio or market without being one
Many listings use words like "company", "rental house", "studio", "camera market" or "production house" to look established. Ask for the UEN and search it on ACRA BizFile. If there is no registered business behind the name, there is no accountable company if something goes wrong.
Red flag 2: An individual asking for your IC details
In Singapore, private individuals should not be collecting NRIC details, even photos with some numbers covered. If a personal Carousell account asks for a photo of your IC, that is a warning sign and a real identity-theft risk. Identity checks for high-value equipment should only be done by a registered business that is accountable for protecting your data. Arkework Studio is an ACRA-registered company and verifies identity only because it is needed when renting out high-value gear.
Red flag 3: Cheap unbranded batteries and accessories
Casual lenders often hand out no-name third-party batteries and bargain accessories. Cheap batteries can show the wrong charge level, cut out mid-recording, overheat or swell, and flimsy mounts can snap and drop your camera. Arkework Studio supplies genuine first-party batteries. Where third-party gear is used, it comes from reputable brands, and our cages, rigs and accessories are from respected camera-equipment makers such as SmallRig and Tilta.
Red flag 4: Vague deposit rules
Large cash deposits with no written terms often lead to arguments over small marks that were already there. Ask how the deposit works and when it is refunded before you pay. Arkework Studio uses a refundable PayNow or Wise deposit, or a $0 card-on-file option, explained upfront.
Red flag 5: A cheap day rate that grows with extras
A low headline price can climb fast once you are charged for batteries, memory cards or a charger. Ask exactly what is in the box. Arkework listings show what is included, and all our rates are GST-free.
Red flag 6: Gear that is not checked between rentals
Dusty sensors, fungus in lenses and tired batteries are easy to miss during a rushed handover. An individual lender also rarely has a spare if something fails. Every Arkework item is tested between rentals.
Red flag 7: Few reviews, one platform, personal transfers only
A handful of reviews on one platform, no Google Maps presence and payment only by personal transfer leave you with little protection. Arkework Studio has 482 Google and Carousell reviews and accepts PayNow, cards, Wise, PayLater and many overseas wallets.
Checklist before you pay any Carousell lender
Search the UEN on ACRA BizFile. Never send IC details to an individual. Ask which batteries are included and whether they are genuine. Get deposit, late-return and damage terms in writing. Read reviews on more than one platform.

Is it safe to rent a camera on Carousell?
It can be, if you rent from a registered business with a long review history and written terms. Avoid individuals who ask for IC details or cannot give a UEN.
Can a Carousell lender ask for my IC?
Individuals should not collect NRIC details, even partly covered ones. Only an accountable registered business should verify identity for high-value rentals.
Which camera rental on Carousell is trustworthy?

Invoices and receipts for company claims
Arkework Studio is a registered Singapore company, so we can issue invoices and receipts on request. Companies and employees claiming a rental as a work expense usually need these, and individual lenders generally cannot provide them.
How Arkework protects the gear you rent
Most of our equipment is wrapped in high-quality 3M vinyl (a few items are not, because no wrap is made for those models), and screens are covered with glass protectors and lenses carry quality UV filters. Most, if not all, of our cameras come with SmallRig or Tilta cages or grips included. Phones come with sapphire lens guards, a glass screen protector and a case, plus a high-speed USB-C to USB-C charging and data cable.
Straps, pouches and bags
All straps, including phone straps, are PGYTECH with quick release. Compact cameras come in a real leather pouch, with chargers and accessories in a small Aer pouch; phones come in the same water-resistant Aer pouch. Other bags we supply are from DJI, JJC, PGYTECH and Chrome.
Are Arkework drones registered?
Yes. All our drones are registered with CAAS, including models of 249g and below.
